Helicobacter pylori are bacteria shown to be a major cause of stomach ulceration and this can now be treated with suitable antibiotics. The Helicobacter breath test can determine whether or not there is H pylori infection in the stomach. The test is simple, is non-invasive (does not require a gastric biopsy) and causes no patient discomfort. The test is not currently recommended for children less than 12 years old.
The test can be performed at the laboratory patient reception at the patient's convenience. The test costs just £71.50 and results are usually available within 48 - 72 hours.
